Canada's New Government Funding Strengthens Canadian IT Research
  The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Industry, today highlighted Budget 2007 funding of $120 million in 2006-07 to CANARIE Inc., a not-for-profit corporation that manages CAnet, a sophisticated broadband network that links Canadian universities, research hospitals, and other science facilities to each other and to leading science facilities in other countries.
Education’s Tseronis focuses on light at the end of the IPv6 tunnel
  Peter Tseronis, director of network services at the Education Department, is acutely aware of the Office of Management and Budget’s order for agencies to transition to the new IPv6 networking protocols. “We’re down to a year and two months to the OMB deadline,” he said recently. But Tseronis, who is overseeing Education’s transition, sees that mandate as an opportunity rather than a chore. And his efforts aren’t limited to Education.
IPv6 looms on the horizon
  In 2000, senior network advisers at the Social Security Administration saw IPv6 twinkling on the horizon and realized it would be the next frontier in technology. Showing more vision than many agencies, SSA began to prepare for the arrival of IPv6 just as the adrenaline rush to fix the Year 2000 programming bug had begun to fade.
